Acworth PD Joins DEA in Prescription Drug Disposal Campaign

Efforts to Prevent Abuse and Protect Community Health

By Stephanie Freeman April 9, 2024

In a proactive move to safeguard families and prevent potential risks, the Acworth Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a crucial initiative. On Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, they will be collecting potentially harmful, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs at two convenient locations: Wal Mart at 3826 Cobb Parkway and the Acworth Police Department at 4440 Acworth Industrial Drive, both in Acworth, Georgia.

This initiative comes as a timely reminder for parents and caregivers about the importance of responsible prescription drug disposal. Many homes have unused or expired medications that, if left unsecured, can pose serious risks, especially to children. Accidental ingestions, intentional misuse, and theft are all potential dangers associated with keeping unused medications in the home.

By participating in this campaign, parents can take a proactive step in keeping their families safe. Properly disposing of unused medications not only reduces the risk of prescription drug abuse but also helps prevent accidental poisonings or overdoses. It's a simple yet impactful way to contribute to the well-being of the community and ensure a safer environment for everyone.

Additionally, the Acworth Police Department emphasizes that this service is free, anonymous, and no questions will be asked. However, it's important to note that they cannot accept needles/sharps, syringes, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, inhalers, and/or medical equipment.

Taking advantage of opportunities like the National Drug Take Back Day not only helps in disposing of medications responsibly but also reinforces the message of keeping families safe. It's a small action that can have a big impact on community health and well-being.
